PVOD PROMOTES LOCAL FILMS INTERNATIONALLY WITH FINAS

Aaron Koh, Producer of SKT Studio Sdn Bhd; Ayez Shaukat, Malaysian Screenwriter; Woo Ming Jin, Malaysian film director; Ryon Lee, Malaysian Film director; YBrs Prof Dr MD Nasir Ibrahim, CEO of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS); Jack Yeoh, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Film Wallet Group Sdn Bhd; Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, Co-Founder of Film Wallet Group; CK Chiah, Co-Founder of Film Wallet Group

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 November 2021 – Newly appointed National Film Development Corporation
Malaysia (FINAS) Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr. Md Nasir Ibrahim, graced the launch of Malaysia’s
first-ever online cinema - Film Wallet Premium Video-On-Demand or Film Wallet PVOD, to
revolutionize and elevate the consumer’s movie-going experience in a safer and a more comfortable
environment.
Apart from being an innovative over-the-top (OTT) media service platform, Film Wallet PVOD is alsoworking together with local and international producers and distributors on film production and
exclusive international content. It doesn’t stop there, Film Wallet PVOD has announced that they will be launching their platform to two countries in southeast Asia in February 2022, allowing for local content to reach a much larger audience.
Established by a 100 percent Malaysian company, Film Wallet PVOD offers hundreds of on-demand content from all across the globe, including - United States of America, Hong Kong, China, Korea,
Europe, and more. In doing so, users need not commit to a subscription to stream their favorite
content in high definition; rather, they would only need to purchase the movie once for as low as RM1.90 and be able to re-watch it multiple times within the given time period. This makes for a more affordable and convenient option for users to catch the latest movie releases, anywhere, anytime.
Jack Yeoh, Founder and CEO of Film Wallet PVOD, said “Film Wallet PVOD is not just a solution for
users to access their favorite movies at their convenience without having to pay a monthly
subscription, but also an initiative to boost the film industry in Malaysia. We are determined to
contribute significantly to the growth of the local film industry by exposing and distributing their
content internationally beginning with the launch of Film Wallet PVOD in two southeast Asian
Countries next year, and more to come.”
Users can now access Film Wallet PVOD anywhere; be it from the comfort of their homes, during lunch breaks, or anywhere else they choose to pass their time – all within a click of a button on their
smartphones, tablets or TVs.
At the press conference, Film Wallet PVOD announced their involvement in the co-production of
three local movies titled - Syaitan Nirrajim (directed by Ayez Shaukat), Where You Are (directed by
Woo Ming Jin), and Isolasi (directed by Ryon Lee) that is expected to be released next year. Film Wallet also introduced their international content collaboration with Celestial Tiger Entertainment
from Hong Kong, allowing users to access exclusive action/thriller movies from around the world under its ‘KIX’ brand. Users can expect more local and international distributors to be revealed in the
following months to come, further increasing the number of exclusive content on the OTT platform.
Prof. Dr. Md Nasir Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Development Corporation
Malaysia (FINAS), said, “The launch of Film Wallet PVOD will bring a positive effect to the film industry ecosystem as a new digital entertainment platform. What caught my attention was Film Wallet’s astounding capability to expand and launch their platform on an international level in a short period of time. Their vision to help export local films overseas is in line with FINAS’ program to promote local
films internationally.”

The Catcher movie announcement ceremony

LOCAL CAR RACING MOVIE, “THE CATCHER”,  COMMENCES AS THE HIGHEST-INVESTED MOVIE IN MALAYSIAN HISTORY THROUGH A COLLABORATION BETWEEN LABUAN OVERSEAS HOLDINGS BERHAD & ROBOTZ.

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 October 2021

Announced at the press conference today was the launch of possibly the highest-invested movie ever in Malaysian history, “The Catcher”, in collaboration with Labuan Overseas Holding Berhad, and Robotz, and produced by Hundred Years Popcorn Production Sdn Bhd. The movie is set to break several records both domestically and internationally with the intention of boosting the tourism industry in Malaysia, after a heavy hit during this pandemic, and subsequently to support in reviving its economy.
“We shall utilize the distinctive attributes of a certain brand and its historical business value to develop Intellectual Properties (IPs) with high-value accreditation, based on racing car performance brands that can be spined-off into brand-licensed hotels, auto city, petrol stations, theme parks, etc. Part of the film will be shot at a famous Port Dickson bay in Malaysia. This will not only stimulate the filming industry market but also promote its derivative activities such as the development of a Port Dickson Bay Studio that can boost hospitality  & tourism, retail, and F&B, real estate and automotive enhancement industry, etc,” said Mr Ong Peng Chu, founder of Hundred Years Popcorn Production Sdn Bhd.
With a budget of more than RM50 million, The Catcher portrays the lifestyle and culture of car modification aficionados in Malaysia. The movie follows the story of a talented young village boy who works hard to defeat opponents from all around the world with heavily modified performance supercars. The film  could also break the world record for featuring an astounding 500 supercars
throughout the movie.
Dato’ Sri Jeffrey Teoh, Founder of Robotz, said, “Supercars are loved by everyone, from any stature or background. As supercar junkies, each of us at  Robotz has always been inspired by Vin Diesel’s and Paul Walker’s successful  “Fast & Furious” movie franchise, we hope to emulate the brilliance these movies hold. Our involvement in making history through this record-breaking  film brings great joy and pride to every single one of us.”
All the cars in the movie belong to members of the Robotz Car Club, who shall also contribute monetarily in raising funds for the movie. At the press conference held on 3 October 2021, Labuan Overseas Holding Berhad signed off a generous RM 2 million to add to the movie’s initial kick-off expenditure.

Mr. Burhanudin bin Mohd Yusoff, CEO of Labuan Overseas Holding  Berhad, said, “We, have managed and raised investments for a couple of local and international projects, but this one is exceptionally interesting. We support this project, not just because it is going to break records but, because of its attractive value-added proposition for our potential investors. It is only natural for ground-breaking movies such as this to catch the eye of many, especially our private high net worth investors. We are ecstatic about this launch, and we  look forward to developing this business as there is massive potential to open  up to investment opportunities in other motor vehicle-related industries, directly  or indirectly, towards the recovery of our Malaysian economy.”
In this production where motor vehicles and racing is involved, for the Advisory in positioning the engineering and technical aspects, we had to seek the expertise and share the experience of Mr. Joe Hun Beng Lim. He is better known as Joe Lim, who is credited with introducing motorsports to China, now the world’s biggest car market and it is fitting that the Chinese motor racing fraternity recognizes him as the “Father of Motorsports” of the first motor racing circuit in China in the early 1990’s.
Informal street racing became popular in affluent special economic zones in the southern parts of China such as Guangdong. His influential Chinese business associates were keen to harness the local demand and promote motorsports to international levels, especially at the top levels of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
An amiable familiarity with motorsports personalities in Hong Kong, Macao,  London, and Paris where the world motorsports authority - the FIA - is headquartered was also crucial to introduce world-class motorsports to China when most people didn’t have driving licenses in the 1990s. Joe Lim had all the special attributes and he leveraged them to good effect.
As the Deputy Chairman and General Manager of the Zhuhai International  Circuit Ltd, Joe Lim managed to get the track constructed, inspected, and ready on time for the first FIA-sanctioned race in 1994.
Joe Lim said, “In China, I realized that what we were doing on the track was having a catalytic influence on the market and the perception of cars in the country. With the introduction of entry-level FIA series and leading up to the top-level Formula 1 Grand Prix in Shanghai, the success of motorsports as a  business model became quickly apparent, and it was at this point I saw the  potential, as it had been from the start of the car industry, to lead the  development of cars for the China market.”
With this in mind, the movie being the catalyst to incite interest in the  development of motoring and the various motor sport industry, Joe Lim shares  the idea of jointly developing 3 main sectors where he would provide advisory  for the new branding called “Enhance”. They include :
1. The Enhance Zone located at Revo City. This is where conversions and modification on Motor Vehicles would be done. This would be located at  OneCity Mall, near Subang Jaya.
2. The Enhance Station, which would be Modern EV charging stations that  can also offer gas / petroleum products. The first would be in Cyberjaya,  in line with its status as a Technology Hub to show support in the future of  EVs industry in Malaysia.
3. The Enhance Automotive City, where there will be a racing & drag race  tracks, including another Enhanced Zone for motor vehicle modifications.  Hotel / Resort facilities would also be included. This is planned to be built  / developed in Gurun, Kedah.
Thus, some of the scenes in the movie may be shot around this soon-to-be developed automotive-themed city that would be sited on a proposed 3,000  acre land, teamed-up with the Kedah state government’s investment arm, Invest Kedah Berhad.
The city will feature globally known sports car brand hotels, a Formula 3 / GT /  EV (Formula E) race track & drag race strip, vehicle enhancement &  modification services, Accredited Speed-safety Driving Academy and an  Automotive Engineering College.
Proposed to be located in Gurun, Kedah, the automotive-themed city would be a tourist hub for supercar enthusiasts to enhance and test their vehicles while marveling at other spectacular supercars. Apart from being a tourist hub, it also serves as a desired filming location for international patrons to shoot thrilling action-packed movies. The themed city will be the official filming location for  future international TV series and feature films in relations to “The Catcher”
franchise.
On the plus side, the strategic location of this themed city may allow for an efficient make-bulk & break-bulk international motor vehicle distribution and trading center. An application for a free trade zone status just like the Iskandar  Regional Development Area (IRDA) down south in Johore would be submitted so as to also develop the potential North-Western Economic Development Hub that could create job opportunities and increased port activities for Malaysia’s  Northern states.
The script for the movie is set to be finalized and casting will soon begin as well.  Production for ‘The Catcher’ will commence in 2022 with expected completion in the year 2023 as the highest budgeted movie in Malaysian history.

OPEN LETTER TO YB TAN SRI DATO SERI HAJI MAHIADDIN BIN HAJI MOHD YASSIN Prime Minister of Malaysia

Empty mall in Kuala Lumpur city

OPEN LETTER TO YB TAN SRI DATO SERI HAJI MAHIADDIN BIN HAJI MOHD YASSIN
Prime Minister of Malaysia

This open letter represents the view of the following associations representing the shopping mall and
retail industries nation-wide in Malaysia as follows:
 Persatuan Pengurusan Kompleks Malaysia (PPK) (or Malaysia Shopping Malls Association)
http://ppkm.org.my/
 Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA) https://mra.com.my/
 Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) https://www.mrca.org.my/
 Bumiputra Retailers Organisation (BRO)
 The Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan (KL) Electrical Home Appliances Dealers‘ Association
(SWEDA) https://www.facebook.com/swedamalaysia/

The extension of the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) from 1 June to 28 June 2021 for the
entire country is drastically and tragically damaging to business and the economy. The announcement of the National Recovery Plan based the threshold of absolute numbers of covid
cases is too broad brushed and imprecise resulting in unnecessary losses.
With the upcoming deadline to review the next course of action, we appeal to the government to judiciously research the data and incidences of covid cases by economic sector and by locality.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) data reveals that retail and shopping sector contributed merely 0.8%
of all cases in May 2021, even prior to the FMCO lockdown which started on 1 June 2021. This
significantly improved and extremely low figures testify to the retail and mall industries' strict
adherence to the SOPs and should not be unduly penalised with closure from operating. Thus, we
believe the retail and shopping sector should be re-opened immediately to provide essential and
other services to the community without risk of infectivity.
Firstly, activities that are not able to comply with the social distancing requirements and crowding
have already been listed in the Negative List. Opportunities to congregate are now non-existent with
the closure of cinemas, gyms, spas, dancing and merry-making in pubs and entertainment centres
etc. All promotional events normally held in the concourse and halls that attract crowds are also not
allowed.
The public is also conscious not to linger and browse and the duration of their visits at the malls have
significantly reduced from the normal 3 to 4 hours to merely 1.5 to 2 hours. These shoppers are diligently practising social distancing and complying well with mask wearing at all times.
Malls only allow entry of those whose MySejahtera status is "Low-Risk" and whose temperatures
do not exceed 37.5oC.

Malls are thus very safe places to be and serve as avenues for some relief, both physically and mentally, whilst doing the necessary shopping chores for food and necessities.

We appeal to the Government to take all these positive factors into account in the upcoming
review and allow the immediate re-opening of all trades in the malls (except for those in the
Negative List).
Presently, already 20-30% of shops in malls have been closed due to the adverse conditions of the
past 16 months, and with 30% of staff being laid off, this amounts to 300,000 personnel. We foresee
that in the event the mall and retail industry including street-front shops are not re-opened by beginning of July 2021, there will be another 50% of the remainder closing their doors for good,
including prominent domestic and international retail brands with more employees at risk of being
laid off. Once these international brands exit from our country, it will be doubly difficult to attract these brands to return.
With these massive lay-offs and shop closures, the entire retail and shopping malls industries will be
grievously and critically damaged and will need massive efforts and time to re-build malls’ ecosystem
or the malls themselves will permanently close, and the retail supply chain will be deeply fractured.
Any prolongation in re-opening will cause irreparable damage to both the retail and shopping
mall industry which may not recover for the next few years, leaving us far behind in the economic recovery process. Therefore, we seek the government’s urgent consideration to mitigate the catastrophic but real scenario as predicted above.
LIVES and LIVELIHOODS MATTER.

Thank you.
Yours faithfully

Suspend HIDE information announcement immediately, shopping mall operators and retailers tell MOSTI.

                                  KLCC Suria Shopping Mall

Suspend HIDE information announcement immediately, shopping mall operators and retailers tell MOSTI.

Kuala Lumpur 8th May 2021

PRESS STATEMENT – HOTSPOT IDENTIFICATION BY DYNAMIC ENGAGEMENT (HIDE)

This press statement represents the view of the following associations representing the shopping

mall and retail industries nation-wide in Malaysia as follows:

 PersatuanPengurusanKompleks Malaysia (PPK) (or Malaysia Shopping Malls

Association)http://ppkm.org.my/

 Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA)https://mra.com.my/

 Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA)https://www.mrca.org.my/

We would urgently urge the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) to immediately suspend announcing any more information derived from the Hotspot Identification by

Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system until clear, accurate and precise basis are accompanied

with the information to be released.

Closure of HIDE Premises

Further to the press statement today by YB Dato Sri Ismail Sabri that premises listed under HIDE

will be required to close for 3 days for sanitization, we believe that in view of the inaccurate information on the hotspot listing, this call to close for sanitization is PREMATURE and will cause

irreversible damage to perception and business recovery and survival. This proposed closure

should be held in abeyance until the data used in HIDE has been confirmed accurate and the hotspot locations are accurately identified.

Appeal for Clear Information

It is without doubt that the first release of the HIDE information have immediately and unfairly

created more uncertainty, panic and fear. The data from Ministry of Health clearly show that the

top 3 incidence of Covid-19 are factories (48.06 %), Community Spread (12.5%), Construction

(11.56%) and Shopping/shop area only comprises 4.78%. Clarification needs to be accurately

provided as to the incidence of infections between shopping malls and shopping area.

It is obvious the HIDE information is incomplete and skewed and portray a completely different

picture than the real situation. The information is incomplete as only those premises and

operations that diligently comply with the SOPs and MySejahtera recording are data-mined.

Those sectors that do not comply and blatantly flout the SOPs are not evaluated for lack of data

and thus do not appear as a hotspot, despite being so.

This absolutely inaccurate publication is dangerously misleading and clearly contains

misinformation. This is tantamount to punishing those who are in compliance and hiding those

who blatantly flout the system. If this situation persists and is not corrected urgently, it will lead to

disobedience just like the deep discounts given to those who do not pay their fines on time, making

a mockery of those law-abiding citizens who paid their dues on a timely basis thus making fools

of those who are law-abiding.

We understand the compilation of potential hotspots is based on the absolute number and

frequency of visits by non-low risk patrons entering the location. This number could be misleading

because non-low risk patrons who have scanned the MySejahtera as they enter would have

already been recorded although the mall subsequently denied them entry.

Merely listing premises in isolation of supporting information is baseless and is not useful in

curbing the spread of the disease. There must be weightage in the listing based on population,

density, ratio of infections as a percentage of the total visitations etc.

As the HIDE data uses information from the MySejahtera system, places and venues where

higher incidents of patrons who are inclined more to use manual recording are automatically not

taken into account and further distort the accuracy of the HIDE information on hotspots. Thus,

those without records are even more risky locations and potential hotspots and these should be

highlighted for public awareness. It would be a complete irony and a huge peril if HIDE is unable

to identify these places, simply due to the lack of such data. Ironically, this will inadvertently direct

and encourage the public to patronize such poorly regulated places with the misguided belief that

these places are actually much safer.

Malls’ Adherence to SOPs

We wish to emphasiseand reiterate that the safety of shoppers is top priority at shopping malls

and with all required SOPs in place including enhanced and regular cleaning and sanitisation

measures, malls are safe places to visit.

The earnest and diligent adherence to the SOPs at shopping malls would appear to have,

unfortunately, back-fired and inadvertently punished the malls. We opine that the HIDE

assessment is grossly unfair to shopping malls and retailers who have invested so much on safety

and control and adhere closely to SOPs as determined by the authorities.

We understand that the national infection rate is 1.3% and from our own statistics, shopping malls’

infection rate is significantly below the national average.

Once again, wewould, therefore, appeal to MOSTI to announce adequately qualifiedHIDE

information so that the public have adequate precise information to make informed judgement

and establish their level of comfort and confidence. We continue to strongly advocate that

comprehensive prior consultation be conducted with industry stakeholders to arrive at practical

and effective SOPs and policies to avoid unnecessary mis-information and unwarranted negative

impact for the industry.

Collaboration between malls and retailers with CITF

Together with our industry partners from Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA) and Malaysia

Retail Chain Association (MRCA), we have also taken the initiative and pro-active step of working

with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to collaborate with private hospitals/ doctors

in private practice to administer vaccination to our employees and staff on-site. This will enable

mass vaccination in the shortest possible time without loss of productivity and unnecessary

disruptions to business operations and contribute towards the national objective of herd immunity

urgently.
