The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashioFestival 2017 entered its third day at KL Gateway Mall with a vampire-inspired, gothic-themed international designers showcase, "STYLO, The Fashion Slayer ", featuring awe-inspiring looks from four emerging designers and seven established designers.
There was an unmistakable element of sultriness and class in the elaborate red and black cinematic set-up despite the dark, sepulchral theme. Embracing the night's theme, some of the guests came dressed to the nines in cloaks, seductive evening gowns and sexy make-up as they mingled and moved along the STYLO red carpet.
The night began with a show by Paris based designer, SERO with a collection incorporating the Zeitgeist - the unique spirit of the current era, into garments to draw a self-portrait of our time.Inspired by comtemporary art and subculture, SERO's collection depicts layers of the most representative elements of current phenomenon onto his designs. www.facebook.com/socialistersClub
This was followed by a timeless and modern collection by Italy-based Japanese designer, Yojiro Kake. Showcasing his passion for western menswear, Yojiro combines modern tailoring techniques with his love of rich volume and detailed decoration, seeking visual impact. Just like children's dreams - romantic and innocent with a touch of ephemeral anxiety, Yojiro's collections are always full of surprises.
Next was a showcase of modern, feminine, sports luxe by London-based designer, Judy Wu.Wu's aesthetic highlights the strength and sensuality of all female kind with the added intricate embellishments and engineered colour blocking, balanced between artistry and wearability through an eclectic mix of fabrics.
Following that, six quirky, simplistic and chic looks were presented by designers, Tan Li Chen (Malaysia) and Lin Yu Bo (China) for Shanghai label, This Not That.
The fashion shows then took a brief intermission with a performance by the exceptionally talented rapper Ashtin Sanjiv from local talent group Keep It Local who got the crowd bopping along with him.
The fashion show then resumedwith Artina Bordir of Indonesia who presented " Glam Indonesia ", a range of casual, formal and evening wear inspired by the ocean and reflected in the handwritten indigo batik combined with recycled denim, white Garut, weaving fabric and floral embroidery. Next up was Shaibal Saha of Bangladesh who showcased flowy, neutral-cloloured ethnic wear and Chimmi Choden of Bhutan who showcased artistic Bhutanese-inspired designs with a modern twist. Also showcasing wa Mardi Sihombing of Sumatra who showcased "eCUT/IKAT ", an environmentally-friendly collection achieved with traditional weavers from the Indonesia islands; Narda's of the Philippines who introduced loose, stylish lounge tops and pants made from ikat tectiles and neutral fibres; Fara Mas of Iran who presented beautifully streamlined cuts and colours; and Nuansri of Thailand who showcased the natural look and feel of hand-woven and hand-knitted hemp from the villages of Mae Rim, Chiangmai. www.facebook.com/shanghaiaffairs

ABOUT STYLO
Launched with Mercedes Benz in 2007 by SPB Tuanku Nur Zahirah, the Raja Permaisuri Agung and Dato' Jimmy Choo, STYLO was conceived as a fashion and lifestyle fringe event in celebration of the 10th year of F1 racing in Sepang. The first STYLO event, held in March 2008was called the STYLO KL Fashion Festival.5 months later, it entered Singapore with Mercedes Benz as its principalsponsor for the launch of the first ever F1 night race in Songapore and was called STYLO Singapore Fashion Festival.
Two years later it was renamed as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix. Subsequently, STYLO spread its wings beyond Malaysia'sborders with events organised in fashion partnership with Mercedes Benz in Delhi, Mumbai, Prague and Mexico City as it celebrated the combination of speed and fashion. Next came Jakarta and London in 2011.
In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz's 150th.anniversary celebrations in 2012, Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (AFW) was born and held its first AFW concurrently as the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and STYLO became partners in 2013 with the Malaysia Fashion Week.It is the country's first B2B fashion initiative; in 2015 Malaysia Fashion Week brought RM 126 millions of soft exports tothe country. The MFW runs concurrently with the AFW, bringing participants from over 17 countries to Malaysia every November.
This year, the Malaysia Formula One will no longer be held in March but in October. STYLO will be showcased as a fashion show at the evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 Party.
However, in maintaining the tradition of having a fashion event every March since 2008, the Mercedes Benz STYLO AsiaFashion Festival has been created in March featuring Autumn Winter and classic collections from top Asian designers for a B2C showcase. These include accessories designers such as hair, make up, bags and shoes.
