The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival2016 kicked off three nights of fashion entertainment in a riot of colors and with much fanfare at the hip and happening Zouk Kuala Lumpur & Tun Razak Entertainment Centre ( TREC) tonight.
Themed, " The Hall Of Plenty ", this year's festival showcased superclub Zouk KL's transformation into a high energy punk rock fashion playground complete with laser lights, chic designer pop art and synthesized sound track in a multi- sensorial explosion of fashion entertainment. A classic black and red STYLO arch stood at the entrance along with a resplendent array of the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz A-class vehicles to greet A-listers as they arrived at the venue.
This year, The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival (MBSTYLOAFF) premiers as STYLO's signature fashion festival taking place in March, highlighting the latest stylish creations and AW 2016 collections from top Asian Designers in a B2C showcase. As the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix has this year moved its race date to October instead of its usual date in March. STYLO will still continue its tradition of being a key support event for the Malaysian F1 race, and will be showcased as a stand-alone fashion show at the evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 party in October.
In signifying the opening of the festival, a ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Datuk Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO International and Chairman of MBSTYLOAFF together with Mark Rainn, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.; Datuk Prof (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE, Honorary Advisor ofMercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionWeek and Malaysia Fashion Week; Cher Ng, Executive Director & Founder, ZOUK Club; Datin Winnie Loo, CEO & Creative Director, A Cut Above Group & Academy and also representing Malaysia Hairdressing Association; Dr. CocoAlex Yeoh, Founder, Empro Cosmetics; and Maggie Chan of the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers'Association.
Datuk Nancy Yeoh said, " On behalf of STYLO, we are pleased topresent the much-awaited AsiaFashionFestival in celebration of all things that are creatively weird and wonderful as we continue to push the envelope in showcasing the best of Asian and Malaysia fashion to the world. This year, wehave the good fortune of tying glamour with a hip and fashionable club as we showcase aesthetically modern, experimental fashion at the region's entertainment epicentre, ZOUK!"
The night opened with " Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Rapunzel ", an outlandish, highly imaginative, avant-garde hair showcase underscoring dark, gothic themes and non-conformist fashion as a dead Rapunzel appears on stage in a long black veil embellished with diamante. As she slips into eternal rest, the show begins with 18 models parading the evolution of fashion in fantastical " hair-raising" coiffeurs by Malaysian Hairdressing Association ( MHA) stylists from A Cut Above Salons, La' Mode Coiffure, Elgon Hair, Hairsources, A+B Hair Studio, Tenz Group, Minas Hair Salon, Hair Emporium, Svenz Salon,Niko Kenz Hair Beauty, Noble Cut Hair Studio and Sunshine Hair & Beauty with creative wear provided by designer, Beatrice Looi.
The opening night ended with a grand funale photo opportunity with hair stylists, models, designers, muses and festivalpartners on stage followed by an after show party at ZOUK's Imperial.

ABOUT STYLO
Launched with Mercedes Benz in 2007 by SPB Tuanku Nur Zahirah, the Raja Permaisuri Agung and Dato' Jimmy Choo, STYLO was conceived as a fashion and lifestyle fringe event in celebration of the 10th year of F1 racing in Sepang. The first STYLO event, held in March 2008was called the STYLO KL Fashion Festival.5 months later, it entered Singapore with Mercedes Benz as its principalsponsor for the launch of the first ever F1 night race in Songapore and was called STYLO Singapore Fashion Festival.
Two years later it was renamed as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix. Subsequently, STYLO spread its wings beyond Malaysia'sborders with events organised in fashion partnership with Mercedes Benz in Delhi, Mumbai, Prague and Mexico City as it celebrated the combination of speed and fashion. Next came Jakarta and London in 2011.
In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz's 150th.anniversary celebrations in 2012, Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (AFW) was born and held its first AFW concurrently as the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and STYLO became partners in 2013 with the Malaysia Fashion Week.It is the country's first B2B fashion initiative; in 2015 Malaysia Fashion Week brought RM 126 millions of soft exports tothe country. The MFW runs concurrently with the AFW, bringing participants from over 17 countries to Malaysia every November.
This year, the Malaysia Formula One will no longer be held in March but in October. STYLO will be showcased as a fashion show at the evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 Party.
However, in maintaining the tradition of having a fashion event every March since 2008, the Mercedes Benz STYLO AsiaFashion Festival has been created in March featuring Autumn Winter and classic collections from top Asian designers for a B2C showcase. These include accessories designers such as hair, make up, bags and shoes.
