KDU Students Express Youth Culture & Creativity

KDU Students Express Youth Culture & Creativity Established brands work alongside KDU Communications students to successfully execute HEY Exhibition 2017 Shah Alam, 22 November 2017 – KDU University College collaborated with various highly-established brands to proudly celebrate youth culture via High Expressive Youth (HEY) Exhibition. Organised by the KDU Creative Industries class students of September 2017, HEY Exhibition is all about educating the public and raising appreciation for the creative industry of Malaysia, as well as showcasing youth interests and culture. The exhibition was held at the KDU University College campus at Utropolis Glenmarie, Shah Alam. According to Wilson Siew, the class lecturer for Creative Industries Sept. 2017 and HEY Exhibition advisor, educating his students about the creative industries is very important for Mass Communications students. “Many things could be in the creative industry. Any job or company that generates and creates new ideas is considered creative, from hairstylists to architects to creative strategists,” said Mr. Siew. “The purpose of the HEY Exhibition is for us to apply what we’ve learned in (Creative Industries) class, and show the public the efforts that creative companies put in to make the world go round,” said Jonathan Lok, the host of HEY Exhibition and a student of Mr. Siew. “Our other goal is to help boost the creative companies at the event and get people to appreciate what they do. Generating ideas isn’t easy!” One of the companies involved was NX, which is a multilingual digital news broadcasting and social media organisation. Their service is to disseminate information from all TV Stations in Malaysia to various social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and their own website, “NX Digital”. NX Digital has scheduled programs every day, including live news being broadcasted into the website from Monday to Friday. Ms. Fairuz, manager of NX, stated, “We are constantly thinking up ways to let our audience comprehend clearly the information that we have, as well as to keep them anticipating updates. We believe that the youth will digest news if it is shown to them directly, so even though they might not read newspapers anymore, they’ll still read the news when they scroll past it on social media.” NX’s booth and student helpers executed a fun activity for the public to enjoy and learn about broadcasting in the creative industry. Exhibition-goers sat in front of a recording camera, and they were asked to talk speak fluently and cohesively in front of the camera for 1 minute. Every participant has a chance to get selected to become a news host for NX Digital. “Boothing at HEY Exhibition was good for us, as it promoted our services to students who like to read the news, and also helped us look for potential newscasters for our video hosting segment,” added Ms. Fairuz. “We’ve got some real potential talents in our lineup!” “The students really did most of the work by themselves. I’m just their advisor,” said Mr Siew on the flow of the exhibition. “I’m really proud of what they have managed to accomplish in less than 3 months.” Catch live news on NX Digital at ‘www.nx.digital/live-tv’ every Monday to Thursday 3-4pm, and on Fridays 4-5pm.
